Deafness Resources Australia (DRA) Update

Further to communication in June 2007 regarding the temporary suspension of the service, CEO of Australian Communication Exchange, Sandy Gilliland acknowledges that suspension of the service was disappointing, however, stresses the necessity in order for ACE to focus on and continue to improve key services to the community, specifically those with deafness, speech and hearing impairments.

Opinion has been sourced from key community groups, members and business partners into how ACE may progress or replace services provided by DRA in line with 21st century technology and consumer demand.

Preliminary findings indicate that the products and services and traditional DRA supply mechanisms may not meet the current demands of the community. “ACE is committed to developing a service delivery model that meets the evidenced needs of the community”, said Mr Gilliland.

An implementation plan is expected to be released in January 2008.
